Checkers Sixty60 rider praised for roadside act of kindness in Shongweni

Henry Nojiyeza (47), a Checkers Sixty60 rider, has been praised online for stopping to help a motorist with a flat tyre near Westown Square in Shongweni, KwaZulu-Natal.

Nojiyeza, from KwaNgcolosi near Hillcrest, said he came across the vehicle while out on a delivery.

“I saw a woman and her child standing on the side of the road next to car with a puncture,” he says. “I knew it wasn’t safe for them to be there on their own and was happy to be able to help.”

“As a man there is nothing more important than family, and I would hope that if my family was stranded like that, someone else would step in and help them.”

The act of kindness was shared on Facebook (8 May 2026) by Chrystal Austin, who said she noticed Henry’s actions while on their way to the mall.

“My hubby and I were driving to Westown Mall today when we passed a scene that just brightened my day and lifted my soul. Kneeling on the tar, tools in hand, we saw Henry Nojiyeza, a Checkers Sixty60 driver, helping a mother and her son change a tyre.”

The post attracted praise from social media users, many of whom shared their own positive interactions with Sixty60 drivers.

“One of the Checkers Sixty 60 drivers took the time to let my 6-year-old sit on his bike and toot the hooter. Such a friendly guy!” one user commented.

Another added: “I love my Checkers Sixty 60 drivers...”

A third wrote: “Such a good deed by a hero.”

What could have been a stressful situation instead became a reminder that simple acts of kindness still matter.
