First Impressions: The Honor X7e is a 7500mAh Battery Monster

When a budget smartphone crosses my desk, I usually expect the standard compromises. But straight out of the box, the new Honor X7e caught me off guard. While it’s clearly built to be a budget-friendly device, it prioritises the things people actually care about in their day-to-day lives: incredible battery life, rugged durability, and reliable everyday practicality.

My immediate first impression? It feels surprisingly lightweight in the hand at just 207g (especially considering what's inside). With its flat edges and clean layout, the design definitely gives off distinct iPhone vibes.

The Sunrise Orange colourway of my review unit gives it a unique, vibrant personality that stands out from the sea of typical slabs, though it is also available in a sleek Midnight Black for those who prefer a more classic aesthetic.

A Powerhouse Built for the Long Haul

The undisputed star of the show here is the 7500mAh battery. This is a massive capacity for any smartphone, let alone one in the budget category. This phone is designed to comfortably push past a full day of heavy use and easily survive two days for lighter users. Paired with 45W Honor SuperCharge, topping up this massive cell won’t leave you tethered to the wall for hours, either.

Instead of chasing flashy, battery-draining flagship specs, Honor has built a phone that simply won't die on you during a commute or a long shift.

Durability and Smart Shortcuts

We all drop our phones, and Honor knows it. The X7e comes with an IP64 water and dust resistance rating, meaning it can handle accidental splashes, rain, and dusty environments without breaking a sweat. It’s a phone meant to be lived with.

Another standout feature is the practical AI shortcut button. Positioned on the side, it gives you instant, one-click access to smart commands, searching, or AI tools. It's a genuinely useful hardware addition that makes navigating the Android 16-based MagicOS 10 interface just a bit quicker.

Smooth Scrolling and Reliable Snaps

The front of the device houses a 6.61-inch display. While the 1604x720 resolution is standard for this price bracket, the 120Hz refresh rate elevates the experience, making scrolling through social feeds and swiping between apps feel buttery smooth.

Under the hood, the MediaTek Helio G81 Ultra processor and 6GB of RAM offer enough grunt for messaging, media consumption, and casual gaming. On the camera front, the 50MP main sensor handles everyday photography reliably, while the 5MP front camera covers your video calls and selfies.

The Honor X7e isn’t trying to compete with premium flagships on raw processing power. Instead, it’s a thoughtfully designed budget device that seems to nail the essentials out of the box. Stay tuned for my full, in-depth review dropping on the 31st of July, where I’ll put that 7500mAh battery, the 50MP camera, and the AI features to the ultimate test to see if it holds up to these strong first impressions.
